To get a place in the ranking list, companies have to offer at least one product that gives them an outstanding position: among the top 3 of their industry in the world market. German companies as well as German subsidiaries of foreign companies doing business independently in the international market are taken into account in the ranking.

The results of the ranking are included in an exclusive study carried out for manager magazine by business strategist Dr. Bernd Venohr. According to this study, Germany has the most world market leaders compared to all other industrial nations, 70 per cent of them are family-owned.
